Foreign Office telegram No. 344 (of October
9th: Boxer Indemnity).
Dr. Wang Chung-Hui, having inquired private-
ly from members of the Foreign Office regarding
the delay in settlement of indemnity question,
had a private conversation with Lord Buxton on
October 16th. Lord Buxton gave him brief
memorandum on present position, which pointed
out that the late government had been prepared
to hand over the administration of the funds to
the control of the Chinese Government in return
for undertaking that they would carry out genera.
